would a ten gallon hood work to heat a green tree frog's cage?

hi! I am interested in getting a green tree frog. I have a few questions, though.
I have an old ten gallon tank with a hood. with my fish, it used to heat the tank up to 85 degrees. if I used the hood to heat the tank, would that work? and also, I have some rocks from the tank... would that work for substrate or should I buy sand or something else? any other advice would be appreciated!

Since it's a tree frog, they need more vertical space than horizontal. Screen tops are also best to use as it is good for ventilation. The fish tank hood probably not work well for this. You can use astroturf (found at hardware stores) or reptile carpeting. Using these will make it easier for them to feed. They will not ingest any substrate on accident that can cause impaction.

As for cage furniture, you can use driftwood, cork bark, sticks and branches. If you collect these items outside, you MUST bathe them in a bleach and water solution overnight, rinsed off, then bathed again in regular water for another night. (this will kill all parasites or other bugs) Obviously you will want some foliage as well. Fake plants work just as good as real plants. That choice is up to you. I'd advise you to use fake though, they are much easier. You will want to place the sticks and any wood pieces on diagonals from corner to corner and on slant from high to low. You will also have to supply your frogs with de-chlorinated water for soaking and defecation. This water must be changed every day or when dirtied to prevent bacterial infections!! The best container for this is a shallow bowl with about 1 to 2 inches of water. You can use anything that is heavy enough the frogs can't knock over, although a store bought water bowl specially made for terrariums will look the best.

Undertank heaters work the best, as they do not need special UVB lights, they are nocturnal. Another heating method is to use a nocturnal heat lamp (no larger than 15 watts) situated over a high point in the enclosure.(not necessarily needed since temps can drop to 65 with no harm) During the day the temp should stay between 72 and 80, and night temp agian; can drop to 65.

For feeding, these frogs will take anything that fits in their mouths. Large fruit flies, house flies, very small crickets, small mealworms, etc. They will need to have a supplement dusted on them just as any other reptile/amphib. You will need to use calcium and multi-vitamin supplements about 3 times a week.
